National Sim Racing Champion Announces Hiatus

Dean Vella, the back-to-back National Sim Racing Champion, has announced an open-ended break from competitive sim racing after six years at the top of the sport.

Who is Dean Vella?

Dean Vella is one of, if not the most prominent sim racers in Malta. Having won the National Sim Racing Championship in 2022 and 2024 organised by World Pro Racing and the Malta Motorsport Federation, and represented Malta internationally in the FIA Motorsport Games in France and Spain with very respectable results.

Dean also won the Sim Racing Driver of the Year in last February’s Esports Awards organised by the Malta Esports Association. He is arguably the most decorated sim racing driver in the country.

Dean has competed in the sport for six years, having been coached by World Pro Racing in the early days of his career as he drove for RPM Esports. He then moved on to international racing teams, including geekz Energy, and eventually establishing his own team: Intercomp VMD Simsport.

Stepping Back from Esports

In his Facebook post, Dean mentioned that he had been thinking about making this step for a while, in order to focus on other priorities in life, including transitioning to real-life racing, and focusing on his physical health. He also mentioned that he doesn’t preclude participating in future sim racing competitions, but not regularly.

Best of luck, Dean, you have made Malta proud!
