Esports Is Part of the Government of Malta’s Vision 2050

The Government of Malta is doubling down on esports as one of the key niche industries it wants to build its future economy on.

Last week, the Government unveiled its Vision 2050 – a document that outlines its ambitious goals for 2035 and 2050. Esports features prominently in this strategic vision.

What does this mean for esports in Malta?

The Government’s plans include positioning Malta as a hub for esports by:

  • Hosting Tier 1 esports competitions
  • Organizing ongoing local grassroots tournaments
  • Supporting the development of local teams and facilitating team relocations

So far, Malta has managed to attract at least two international esports teams with boots on the ground, namely Talon Esports, and Furia, but also other companies like DAIGON Esports

You can have a say in this!

What do we think of the Government of Malta’s focus on esports as part of the country’s future economy? Vision 2050 is currently open for public consultation, and anyone can share their feedback through the Government of Malta’s official website.
