Hamrun Spartans player Shaun “brandsha” Galea is the three-time back-to-back-to-back Malta ePremier League champion. His recent win earned him a qualification into the League Stage of the eChampions League.
What is the eChampions League
The eChampions League 2025 is a yearly competition organised by EA, mirroring the real life UEFA Champions League. Thirty-six clubs from each of the official European Partner Leagues send their best contenders to the competition. Whilst bigger leagues, such as the English ePremier League or the French eLigue 1 have four slots, whilst smaller leagues such as Malta’s ePremier League or the Finnish eFutisliiga only have one slot.
The event is one of the biggest tournaments on the esports calendar for EA Sports FC, together with the FC Pro World Championship and the Esports World Cup. It features a $281,000 prizepool – one of the biggest for the game.
In 2025, the eChampions League is being held in Manchester for the League Stage and the Knockouts, and then moving onto Munich for the finals on the 28th May.
Past Performances
Last year, Brandsha was eliminated in the Group Stage, after famously defeating former World Champion and former eChampions League champion, nicolas99fc. He also made it to the main event of the eChampions League in 2022.
2025 Results
Unfortunately, 2025 wasn’t Brandsha’s year, ending his run in the League Stage with 2 Draws and 4 Losses and ending in 34th place.
Brandsha drew with Team Liquid’s Young and Bayern Munich’s KKoray. However he lost to FC Twente’s Brent, Italian Champion and Torino FC player Samugamer_07 and 5-time French champion Fouma from FC Lorient. Of course with such a stacked tournament with Europe’s top players, it is extremely hard to make a dent in this competition, but we applaud Shaun for his valiant effort.
Head up, Shaun!
