Velocity Esports Christmas Cup Recap

For Christmas, Velocity Esports Racing paired up with Level Academy to organize a fun little racing event which embraced the Christmas spirit, while also helping out the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation. Here is how everything went down.

Velocity Esports Christmas Cup Groups

The Velocity Esports Christmas Cup was split into 3 groups in total. Each group later had to race once again to get a chan

Group 1

For our 1st group in the qualifiers we had 8 drivers racing in Baku, Azerbaijan. The drivers were as follows:

  • Jonathan Schembri
  • Andrew Zarb
  • Matteo Mulligan
  • Nigel Farrugia
  • Kersten Curmi
  • Mark Grech
  • Jamie Zahra
  • Mark Scicluna

Sonev came out on top in Baku, as he finished the race in 1st place. Mark Scicluna, ShockKnock98, Mark Grech, and Il-Weeder were the rest of the drivers that qualified.

Group 2

In the 2nd group of the qualifiers the following drivers racing in Silverstone, Britain:

  • Brendan Buhagiar
  • Daylziel Tabone
  • Thomas Elders
  • Cedric Cassar
  • Emerson Zarb
  • Paolo Camilleri
  • Matthew Cassar Hili
  • Simeon Nechev

Thomas Elders was the eventual Victor as he was the first to go past the finishing line. Daylziel Tabone came in 2nd, and was closely followed by Brendan, Matthew and Simeon.

Group 3

In our 3rd group in the qualifiers the 8 drivers raced on Spa, Belgium. Here below are the drivers:

  • Gary_Mula
  • ChrisNerazzurro
  • Baloo
  • Cicru46
  • YanGer_26
  • El-Tonel
  • Nigel Gafa
  • Cikku2

The majority of the drivers ended up finishing the race with a penalty or two, but utlimately, ChrisNerazzurro placed 1st in the 5-lap race. YanGer_26, Gary_Mula, Nigel Gafa, and Cikku2 followed.

Group 4

The 4th group consisted of the 1st group that participated, but this time, they were racing in Sochi, Russia. 

Despite the race having a similar result to the 3rd race in terms of penalties, it was a great race nonetheless. Il-Weeder took the win, Mark Grech close behind him, while Sonev, Mark Scicluna, and Andrew Zarb followed.

The standings for that group were as follows:

  1. Mark Grech – 106 points
  2. Sonev1878 – 86 points
  3. Il-Weeder – 80 points
  4. Mark Scicluna – 57 points
  5. Andrew Zarb – 55 points
  6. Jonathan Schembri – 38 points
  7. ShockKnock98 – 33 points

Group 5

The 5th and final group of the qualifiers consisted of the 2nd group that raced, and they were racing in Sochi, Russia. 

The standings for that group were as follows:

  • UnknownElder90 – 121 Points
  • PaoloCamilleri23 – 84 points
  • Daylziell59 – 72 points
  • Simyy27 – 57 points
  • CassarHili36 – 52 points
  • Brendan1245 – 41 points
  • Milanis_EME – 30 points

The Main Event

The main race was set to be played in Interlagos, Brazil, and 19 drivers were going to be taking part. The majority of the race was led by Kurt Valletta, a prominent driver within the Maltese community. Whereas in the top 5 we had; Il-Weeder, Il-gaa, sonev and Simyy. Not much had changed by the 18th and final lap, as Kurt Valletta crossed the line in 1st place.

The Velocity Esports Racing & Level Academy Christmas Cup was a great showing of a superb event which was not only a perfect opportunity for aspiring esports drivers, but a way of helping out a local charity foundation.
