In response to a Parliamentary Question on the 15th October 2024, Malta’s Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, Hon. Silvio Schembri informed Parliament that Malta had invested €12,481,024 across five years, 2019 until 2023.
Where did the money go?
The same document also identifies the recipients of those funds, namely:
- GMR
- Eden Esports
- ESL Gaming GmbH
- World Pro Racing
- QLASH Esports Ventures S.A.
- Level Academy
- Malta Counter-Strike League
The €12.5 million likely refer to the beneficiaries of funds distributed by the GamingMalta Foundation over the last several years, and through whose patronage, numerous events were organised in Malta.
Since then, both the Malta Esports Association, and Velocity Esports Racing also seemed to enjoy some lucrative Government cash.
Pinnacle Cup: Malta Vibes was a Dota 2 event organised by Eden Esports and sponsored by GamingMalta in 2023
